June 9, 2023 – The Barren County Economic Authority (BCEA) and Scott, Murphy & Daniel have announced a partnership to construct speculative buildings in Barren County, specifically in the South Cooper Industrial Park in Glasgow, KY. The board has approved the construction of a 50,000 sq ft and a 100,000 sq ft building. These speculative buildings are designed to attract potential employers by providing ready-to-use space.
The decision to build these speculative buildings is based on the understanding that speed to market is a crucial factor in site location for businesses. By having buildings readily available, the time required for a business to move in and start operations is significantly reduced.
“We are thrilled to partner with Scott, Murphy & Daniel on this endeavor,” said Maureen Carpenter, the President & CEO of the Barren County Economic Authority. “These new buildings will significantly enhance Barren County’s competitive edge and appeal to potential industries. Scott Murphy & Daniel, with their extensive experience in supporting economic and industrial development in South Central Kentucky, are the perfect collaborators for this project.”
"Barren County is constantly receiving inquiries for buildings, and our ability to provide available space, coupled with a robust marketing effort and enticing economic development incentives, positions us as a highly competitive destination for businesses," stated Barren County Judge Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd. "The introduction of these new buildings will further enhance our capabilities in accommodating companies on a quick timeline. We are committed to facilitating swift and seamless transitions for businesses looking to establish themselves in our vibrant county."
The 100,000 sq ft speculative building, which can be expanded to 240,000 sq ft, will be situated on approximately 20 acres of land, while the 50,000 sq ft building, also expandable, will occupy nearly 22 acres. Both buildings are conveniently located near the Cumberland Expressway and I-65. The construction is expected to be completed by January 2024.
"Glasgow is immensely grateful for the support we have received, and we are excited about the ongoing developments within our city," said Glasgow City Mayor Henry Royse. "With the groundwork laid and the opportunities that lie ahead, Glasgow is primed for a period of remarkable growth and prosperity. We look forward to embracing this exciting chapter in our city's journey."
Overall, the partnership between the BCEA and Scott, Murphy & Daniel aims to enhance Barren County's economic development efforts, attract industries to the area, and provide businesses with quick access to ready-to-use industrial space.
