May 25, 2023 – On Thursday, the Barren County Economic Authority received final approval of their Kentucky Product Development Initiative (KPDI) grant application.
South Cooper Industrial Park, situated on a sprawling 152-acres along 68/80 in Glasgow, is planned as a pivotal hub for industrial activities. In recent years, the park has witnessed remarkable progress through various developmental efforts. These include the construction of an access road that facilitates seamless entry into the park, the widening of 68/80 to enhance accessibility, and the installation of turning lanes to ensure smooth traffic flow. Additionally, the park has undergone rigorous assessments such as Phase I Environmental, Geo Technical and Geo Physical testing, an archeological study, as well as a thorough stream and wetland analysis. These comprehensive due diligence measures demonstrate our commitment to responsible and sustainable development, ensuring that the South Cooper Industrial Park maintains the highest standards of environmental stewardship and meets the needs of the industries it will serve.
The preparations undertaken thus far have paved the way for an exciting new phase of development at South Cooper Industrial Park. With the aim of establishing Build-Ready Certified sites, the park is poised to undergo an expansion that includes the extension of crucial infrastructure and further excavation. The receipt of funds, particularly through the KPDI Grant, will provide the necessary investment to propel Phase III of this transformative project. This phase encompasses the extension of water, sewer, and natural gas infrastructure, as well as the grading of an additional 100 acres comprising five new lots. The successful completion of Phase III will culminate in the entire park being primed and ready to pursue Build-Ready status, marking a significant milestone in its growth and capacity to attract new businesses and industries. This strategic advancement will further solidify South Cooper Industrial Park as a premier destination for economic growth and opportunity.
“This grant represents an opportunity to create lasting positive change, to address critical needs, and to build a brighter future for all,” said Maureen Carpenter, President & CEO of the Barren County Economic Authority. “I extend our appreciation to the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development and the Kentucky Association for Economic Development for recognizing the potential within our community and for entrusting us with the resources to turn that potential into reality as we continue to build out the industrial park.”
The infusion of $1,081,215 through the KPDI Grant Program represents a tremendous boost for the Barren County Economic Authority. This remarkable achievement marks a significant milestone as it contributes to a cumulative grant funding total exceeding $2,000,000 in 2023. These grant funds serve as a testament to the dedication, hard work, and strategic vision of the Barren County Economic Authority in securing resources to drive economic growth, foster innovation, and enhance the local business landscape.
"As an elected official, I am immensely grateful and humbled by the generous grant funds bestowed upon our community. This significant investment stands as a testament to the collective efforts and shared vision that drive our progress,” said Jamie Bewley Byrd, Barren County Judge Executive.
“Together, we will utilize these funds wisely, with transparency and accountability, as we work tirelessly to fulfill our commitment to serve and uplift every individual within our vibrant community," said Henry Royse, City of Glasgow Mayor.
With these substantial investments, the Authority is well-positioned to propel impactful initiatives, catalyzing job creation, fostering entrepreneurship, and unlocking opportunities for sustainable development.
